[Movie Review] The Help + R.I.P.D.

So I stayed up to really late last night (or rather, till 3am this morning) to watch this movie that Nick introduced to me, called The Help.

I know, I've never heard it before either, but I watched it. It was talking about racism, and basically shows how they're mistreated in Jackson, Mississippi. Of course, it doesn't show the extreme (eg tarring and feathering, burning, beating), but they talk of it.

It's a movie about this lady called Skeeter (or Eugenia), who wants to write a book called "The Help", interviewing maids (in that time, all the maids were coloured) in Jackson. It shows how much effort she put in to get the maids to help her with the book, so that they can stop racism. It also shows how the maids change their minds and, ultimately, help her with her book. Skeeter's friends are all racists, so it's really hard for her to change their mindset, but she managed to publish the book in the end.

It's a very touching story. I cried like an idiot at the end of the movie, with like.. short crying in between. Definitely a good movie to watch. Not to mention that it's very.. what's the word, real?

I did a book called "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" for literature one - two years ago. It was horrible. In a sense that the book was too draggy in the beginning. There was a total of 12 chapters if I'm not wrong. Talks about the writer (who is coloured btw) as a child, how she was treated, how she saw the blacks being treated, how only one or two white people were good to her, how racism impacted her and her family as a whole and individually, etc. The only interesting part was the last 2 chapters, which was too long a wait if I were to comment. If this book was written as well as the script for The Help, I'd have adored that book.

Anyway, that's a 4.5/5 stars for The Help. Because I don't really understand their accent LOL. Not a relevant point though. Punch me for it.
(If you can't find it, you can watch it here.)

Also, I just finished watching R.I.P.D. Jenna told me it was a good movie, but I never had the time to watch it. Now that I finally do, I went ahead with it. Okay, first things first - RYAN REYNOLDS is so HOT. Anyone who denies that, you're weird.

Now that that's off my chest, it was a terrific movie! I like the idea of it cos it's really creative, like how they have dead humans working for the Rest In Peace Department, protecting the human world from any forms of intrusion / danger that the dead (who escaped from judgement) causes. I thought it was quite an interesting idea, that the other world might work like the human world.

I also like the idea of how the RIPD have a fake identity to hide their real one in the human world. Well, most people think that they'll look the same after death, but this puts a twist to what people usually think. It's kind of like.. unexpected. I like unexpected. Really nice concept.

I'd rate it a 5/5 stars, not because Ryan Reynolds is hot, he has nothing to do with this. But because I really like the idea, the concept, the storyline. And it doesn't have much suspense in the movie, like you know what they're doing from like.. 10 mins onwards? Even though the gold thing did suspend me a little but it didn't bother me as much, because you know what they're doing, even if you don't know what it's for.

That's all for now, will be watching more movies these 2 days. Sayou~

saikin

I went out with Nick and Jie'r again on Monday. Super fun! I met Jie'r first, then went to Bishan to meet Nick for lunch. We decided on PastaMania, but there were too many people. We did something damn.. bad. We took a seat, and the staff were like "oh, this way", and all. But we were so ticked off with the number of people that we just walked off. HAHAHA! I thought we were quite bastard XD

We went to Yoshinoya, then went to Nick's friend's place cos she was having some house party.. but turned out, there were really only the three of us HAHA!!! I have no idea why. We watched Grown Ups 2, but it was quite boring so we stopped halfway, and watched The Conjuring (again). Well, Nick and I watched it before, but Jie'r hadn't, so we just watched it together.

Afterwards, we went to have dinner and went home. Jie'r gave me this too!! It's supposed to be my birthday present, but.. my birthday is in January (laugh). It's fine, because it's the thought that counts.

Tattoo stockings! The devil version! I'm super happy because it's damn cute! Looks like this when worn:

(source)
Super cute!! Not my photo, but still.

On Tuesday, I met up with the stay-back people, my oovoo group. Some of them are from my class while others are from other clusters. We went for movie, and then some shopping, then dinner. Watched Killing Season. We didn't know it has really bad reviews until after we bought the tickets, so we went ahead anyway.

It was GORY. And such a weird movie.. It made sense to me but many of them didn't know what was happening. Maybe because I took Literature so I could see more links? The movie started with these group of people shooting another group of people in a war. Then to the now. This guy, who was supposedly shot, got some info on the people who shot him, and went to find the guy who shot him. They start killing each other because the one who was shot, wanted the shooter dead. They start engaging in this... idk, really long fight, which ended up the same, the shooter was going to shoot the first guy. Basically, a really long story about them fighting each other. But the shooter threw the gun away and freed the guy.

I remember the shooter telling the guy a story. In the beginning when they met, they were talking. The shooter is an old man, by the way. He said, (something like that)

"One day, a man came to the confession booth in the church and said 'Father, I have a sin that I would like to confess to,' and the Father said, 'sure, son.' The man said 'During the war, a woman came to me and said she needed help, so I sheltered her in my attic.' The Father said, 'Well, that's a great thing that you did.' The man continued, 'But it was terrible, she started paying me back with sexual favors, like blow jobs.' The Father told him, 'Well, the war is hard, and both of you were helping each other. You are forgiven, my son.' The man replies, 'Well, that's one problem off my chest. Another problem I have..."

And he stopped there. At the end of the movie, after the fight, he repeated the same story again.

"'Another problem I have, Father, is that should I tell her that the war is over?"

Okay, I admit, I laughed at that part. I know, it's awkward, but I get it. Because, the war is over. Which means their fight is over.

I don't actually think that it was such a bad movie, though.

Then we went to Far East Plaza for shopping. I know, there's nothing to shop there. Jenna wanted to buy shoes so we went over. I didn't want to buy anything, but unexpectedly bought these:

So cute!! I'm a bit crazy, but yes, it's cute to me. But it's just a copy of what they have at Kreepsville 666. Then we had dinner at EAT. and went home after that.

On Wednesday, I went out with Nick again. Went for a job interview and all. I so need this job right now, I'm not joking. I'm so broke, I can't even. We went around Singapore and stuff, which is quite.. psht. Long story to write (><)

And I heard today, that Heresy is now open to global fans again as of today! I'm so happy, I cannot. I am super excited because I've always wanted to join Heresy!! Okay, I'm just babbling about my fangirling stuff. Just a bonus for myself before I go off and do something productive:

Natsu Matsuri 2013 + Event Day @ *Scape

Went to Natsu Matsuri yesterday!! It was super fun because I had a really long talk with Bunny, whom I haven't met for so long. We bought takeaway, and sat under the hot sun to eat, while queuing and the floor scorching our butts. But a while after we finished, we were allowed into the school sheltered area to queue, so it was better.

Oh, there was a group of xmm in front of us, and 3 Japanese ladies in front of them. Nothing wrong, but while we were moving in, one of the Japanese lady got her umbrella caught in the barbed wire fence, and the group of xmm just cut her queue. Okay, WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. They were THRILLED! And actually happy that they got to move in front! How could anyone do that? Just taking things as if they deserved it, when in actual fact - they don't.

Ah well, went fine after that. While queuing up:

I'm not sure why, but I thought I looked quite different here.

After we went in, there was a performance, so we stood and watched. I really enjoyed it and I could really appreciate how they smile so wide when they're performing.

When the entry line opened, we walked around for a bit and bought food. Oh, and my favourite ice cream!! Soda Stripe!

This one's different flavour from the one that I had last year, but it's the same thing. Last year I had the soda one, this year was the melon one. It's super tasty! The green part is melon flavoured ice, like kakigori, and the white stripes are vanilla cream. Kind of tasted like Solero ice cream from Wall's.

Then we walked around and I happened to meet Javen, Vivienne, Nabilah and Mimi! What a surprise! I honestly didn't expect to see them around. Didn't take photos with them though ):

Oh, and I went to Keita's stall to support her, and I bought this pretty necklace, handmade by herself!!

Ah, my feels for Alice in Wonderland. Check out her stuff in the link written on her card! She makes really nice stuff.

Then we walked around more, and I bumped into Cid! Like, WOAH, hold it right there! That's too many people I'm coincidentally meeting today! Went to sit down at the field after that. Started eating, talking even more, and got bored, so we started drawing. I drew the girl sitting in front of me. She's really pretty, but a pity I could only draw her back view. She looked super good in yukata!

And Bunny and I took photos together cos we got bored of drawing.

(For some reason, I can't get my phone to send the image to my laptop, so I got this photo from Bunny) The construction site at the back is quite epic, though.

Oh, and my super cute socks! It's the other 2 pairs that I bought together with the cat one (2 posts ago).

I wore the bear on yesterday. I was telling my mom, before I left home, that it's damn cute and forced her to look at it. I annoyed her until she took a look xD She commented, "it's on the inside! No one can see it anyway!"

I proved her wrong, because when we were sitting on the mat in the field, and we have to take our shoes off. So I'm like, look at my cute socks, hah, look at it look at it! XDDD

Yeah, then the bon odori, and happened to see some other friends. Talked a bit and left. A long ride home, but it was fun nonetheless. I really enjoyed myself and damn, Bunny and I should meet up more often! We have never ending topics to talk about.

Today, I went to the cosplay event at Scape, to meet Kelly!! But I had to go to my friend's house before I could like... go out with her because she overslept. ~_~ The sky when I was walking to her house (she lives within walking distance, thank God!)

It's really a beautiful day and I thought it'd look really nice on photo. Well, the water spoiled the photo cos the color was so bad, but the sky was so clear and the clouds were so calm, I just had to.

Skip to the part about meeting Kelly. (LOL!!) I found her at the area behind scape, but the photographers were hogging her! Sad life me. I waited a while for the photographers to clear, but they were just... not leaving. So I went to have lunch, buy movie tickets, then went back to find Kelly.

Apparently, she wasn't at that spot anymore, and I was instagramming her LOL. She walked out of scape warehouse to go to the toilet, but I happened to see her, so I went up to take photo with her x)

SHE'S SO CUTE!!!! I SWEAR, SHE'S. OMG. CUTE. I even asked for a solo shot of her before she left because my face spoiled the photo... as usual. Didn't wear make up cos I woke up late too, but not later than Kimberly. (laugh)

Her solo shot, no filter. She is THAT cute in real life! And she's a super nice person! You'd think bloggers who are slightly more known than others would be super snobby/ arrogant? She isn't! And she's really nice to talk to. She tries to converse with you, make you feel that she appreciates her fans. Super super nice.

Then went for my movie... THE AFTER DINNER MYSTERIES1!!! I finally understand why Cassandra is so crazy over Sakurai Sho! Well, I'm not crazy over him, but I do admit that he is an amazing actor. The best part is - he's only acting because he likes it, not for fame or fortune.

Anyway, it was a really good movie. As a sucker for mystery novels/ dramas/ movies, I can usually predict the plots. But not for this one. Not only the acting is good, the storyline! It was incredible! Highly recommend people to watch it!

After that, Kimberly and I walked around, bought some stuff, and went to Orchard area for food. But the queue was too long, so we walked to Dhoby Ghaut for food. She wanted ice cream for dinner. LOL DIS GURL. I had dinner at home so I didn't eat. Our loot of the day!

Most of the stickers are hers. My loot is just the dream catcher (which is hanging on my phone right now), the 3 badges in the center (the ace, moose, and the triangular thing with a lady lying on her back at the base), and 4 stickers (the girl beside the dream catcher, the panda, the skull and the cartoon rabbit). It's kind of not my style, but it was so cute I just had to buy it.

Oh, and Kimberly says the girl on the sticker looks like me. OMG. I showed it to Nimi when we were (are, actually) on oovoo, and she said the same thing. Oh lord, this is quite creepy indeed.

And we saw these 2 cute dogs cosplaying!

So cute!! I don't have a thing for pets but they were super cute! I was a it annoyed because I took 7 photos, but only 1 turned out clear, because they were moving so much! Cute, nevertheless.

After dinner, we went back and just talked the whole time. I'm really glad we managed to keep in touch all these year though. It's rare for friends to stay with each other from primary 1 to this age. We've known each other for 10 years now. Isn't it cool? XD

Semester End

Today's the last day of submission. Which equates to the last day of Common Foundation. I'm actually really sad that I'd be leaving this class and splitting to our respective courses.

One is because I'm posted to product design and I really want to go to visual communication and media design. For this, I'm appealing like crazy for it so if I don't get in, I might withdraw from product design, I might continue. I'll discuss it with my parents and see what's the best. Most likely, I'll want to withdraw from it because I see no point in staying for something that I don't like.

Like what Winston said this morning, if I'm going to drag my feet to school everyday and he have to talk to my parents about it, ultimately I'll have to withdraw anyway. And I hate wasting time, so I guess withdrawing would be the best choice. I don't actually plan on going to university anyway.

Two is because I'll be leaving this wonderful class. Honestly speaking, I've never had a class this perfect before. Everyone's good with everyone; whenever we have some outing, we'll tell everyone hoping that everyone can go out together; we don't split into cliques. Everyone is just with everyone if anyone needs someone; and we always help each other out, unconditionally.

I've really never gotten a class like this before in the past 10 years. I'm really grateful to have a class like this and after all that the whole class has been through, it made me realize that maybe, for once, school days aren't that hard to pass by.

I'm hoping that we'll have a class outing soon! I will really miss them.

Speaking of my submission, here's a photo of it!

It's a very simple game. The player just have to take the ball which is tied onto a piece of string, and tie it to their finger, stand behind the boundary line, then try to hit the cans labelled 1, 2, and 3, in that sequence.

Visually, it turned out nicer than I'd expected. And it is quite addictive. My lecturers say there's a lot of potential in this game, but because it's a small scale one, we didn't make it super well.

Oh, and the sky when I came back was super pretty, but my phone couldn't capture the exact colour so.. here's a few fail shots:

Productive

I just realized I didn't blog about my cute socks yesterday. So here:

Cute, ain't it?? That's my new shoes by the way! My first pair of creepers and it fit perfectly! Super happy. Well, cos I bought it online. Pre-ordered on Carousell. Was so afraid that the size wouldn't fit but it was a just nice fit, so I'm really happy about it.

The seller was Bunnies4sale. Great service, super nice girl, responsible seller, get back to texts/whatsapps fast.

Just went to Plaza Singapura KFC to meet Nimi to help her with her story book (submission was today). Spent the whole day there and didn't do much.

Today had been seriously productive. I'm quite proud of myself because I've submitted my story book. The cover of mine:

It looks like Hatsune Miku, but it was referenced from World is Mine version of Hatsune Miku, so yes, it looks like her. I wanted to change the hairstyle but it's challenging (cos my drawing isn't good to begin with), so I tried to mimic first. But it turned out quite nice and I put in a lot of effort so I used it anyway.

After that, Debbie and I went to walk around 313 and *Scape, then we stopped at Mos Burger for a drink and waited for Nimi to come. Then we started talking about the blogshop that we wanted to start some time ago. We've yet to think of the name and all, but we've just started designing the clothes today. Here's mine:

It's really just a sketch, so the proportion is quite inaccurate, but we're just going to see how it goes.

And my ootd:

Love this sweater! I got this from Shuu <3 my lovely. Hurr LOL. I haven't wore this in Singapore before, because it's really hot. Wore it when I was in Japan though! (And Jun commented that it was cute. Awww!!!)

Full black today because I don't really know what to wear, and I tied up my hair. A lot of my friends told me I look super different today and I'm like, "... really. =_=" I don't think I look any more different, but whatever floats their boat I guess.

Then we had dinner and came back. I thought it was a really productive day. Had fun drawing and all so I guess it's fine.

And I finished reading the story book that I've been reading. It's called Dark Matter by Michelle Paver. I'm not sure why, but I cried when I finished the book because it was so touching. It's not the first time I'm reading this book so I thought it's really odd for me to cry.

That's all for today then!

Crazy Weekend + Rant

Went printing on Saturday with Debbie, but I'm really pissed about the whole printing thing. Because my submission is on Wednesday, I want to get my book done asap. Debbie wasn't ready for printing so I helped her with some stuff before we went to print. Sadly, the printing shop already closed when I reached. I really wanted to get it done, so I went to the printing shop beside Color Vizio (the one that I wanted to go to).

Shittiest experience ever. The one I went to was Ben Quick Print Services. I'm NEVER going back again. Basically, they don't know what they're doing. I was served by this China guy, idk if it's relevant, but I'm just going to say it anyway.

  1. He didn't know how to use the printer. Keep in mind, it's the printing shop that he's working at.
Come on, you are working there and you tell me you don't know how to work the printer? You've got to be kidding me. He couldn't even put 2 pages into 1 piece of paper! How difficult is it to click "multiple pages on 1 paper"? Okay, fine, he got that done. Which comes to...

     2. He test printed on my paper.

I brought my own paper in to print because it's supposedly cheaper than using the paper from the printing shops. I even specially went to get my own paper, and he test printed on my paper. WITHOUT ASKING ME. I'm so ticked off by this! I didn't even ask for a test print! And he made me pay for it! Thick-skinned or what?! He even told me not enough paper and asked me for extra! The nerve of some people.

      3. He doesn't admit his fault.

So he test printed on my paper. Fine, I'm being very nice to let it go. But I noticed that the margin was too wide, so I asked him to make it narrower. He told me it's not possible to do so. REALLY? REALLY? My margin wasn't even that wide on the screen. It's 2 times the length when he printed it out. First, tell me why.

If you don't know how to change, TELL ME. Do not lie to your customers! Seriously, it's my first time going to the printing shop and he lied to me. What makes him think that I'll go back again? THINK. That's what you have a god damned brain for.

      4. The pages came out wrong.

I have no idea why, but the pages came out wrong. It was fine when I viewed it on the computer so there's no way it should come out wrong. The first few pages were right, but the page behind chapter one came out blank. WHY.

Apparently, page two appeared on another piece of paper, so did page three and four, with the back page all wrong. Normal, right?

WRONG.

Page five and six were on the same piece of paper, back to back.

So what happened? I don't know.

And after all those, I told him I don't want to bind anymore, and he asked me. He had the freaking nerve to ask me "huh? why no binding?" WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.

It shows me that he does not know what he did wrong. Honestly, I would've told him off, but I was too pissed. I simply told him that the pages are wrong.

The most pissing part was that if I'm talking to him in English and he doesn't understand, it's fine. But I spoke to him in Mandrin!! How do you not understand your own mother tongue?!

His attitude wasn't bad, though. He said he could reprint for me but I told him I had no more paper and just left after paying.

I'm so pissed off that I posted on the design school facebook page, telling them not to go there. I will make sure they don't have business.

=====

All those shit aside, Sunday was great! I got to collect my creepers, bought new, super cute socks from Daiso (yes, Daiso), I got a new phone (Samsung Galaxy Express), and a new phone number!

Although I spent half the day at the printing shop, it was fine because I felt like a spoilt brat, buying so many new stuff. I'll be posting the pictures of the socks and the creepers after tomorrow, because I plan on wearing it tomorrow ww.

Birthday Girl + Ideal Dollfie

So today, I went to celebrate my friend's birthday! It was super fun! We had some surprise birthday party planned for her. Brought her to Jurong Point's Crystal Jade for dinner, then birthday cake, and a little drinking after that.

Everyone wore red because that's birthday girl's favourite colour. Big group of people, but it was fun :)

I'm planning on going to print stuff tomorrow but I'm not sure if the others want to go printing with me. If I'm going alone then I'd rather not go LOL. Not that I'm afraid of being alone or anything, but birthday girl's gonna go on Sunday, so I might as well go with her if no one's going with me.

Also, I've been searching for ball-jointed dolls online and I found one that is near to my ideal doll!! My ideal doll is actually my friend's friend's doll, named Ritsuki. (Funny part is, my nickname was Ritsuko when I first met him LOL). And I present you, Ritsuki:

He is super sexy! I used to be afraid of dolls, almost like a phobia. But when I met Ritsuki, it's like this strange attraction towards him. I didn't dare touch dolls, but when I met him, I stared at him and would touch his face. He is so cute that he drools when he's sleeping <3 I'm really glad to have met him, but the really sad thing is that I'll never get to see him again because I'm no longer in contact with that friend, because of some reasons.

Which was why, I started looking through DollZone. They have the most perfect dolls one could ever find. I was looking for one that looks like K, and I actually found it! And his ears can be changed to elf ears! Aww!

He doesn't exactly look like K, but he looks a little like him. I've been wanting to look for a bjd that looks like K, buy it, and name it K. So that even if I'm forever alone, it's fine because I have K with me. (laugh). That's what happens when you're an overly-obsessed fangirl.

But Memphis is super expensive! Full set is nearly SGD$900. That's expensive, considering the fact that my other friend got her bjd at around SGD$300+, nude doll, no makeup. Hers is also a 1/4 doll, but it's made in China.

Hers is the guy, the one at the back. I don't have a clearer picture because it's in my friend's camera. She bought the clothes and all on TaoBao, I think. She did the makeup for the doll by herself. So in total, together with the doll, it should cost around SGD$500-600? Still cheaper than Memphis. AI CREY.

Oh well, Memphis is really cute though! I'm planning to go check out Alice 88th (provided it hasn't closed down) and see if they have other dolls who look more like K. If not, AI CREY EVERN MUR. Sayou~
